A native
of New Zealand, Vikki came over to England in 2001 intending to stay for a
year. She's still here seven years later.
The majority of Vikki's
working life has been spent in the banking world. She worked for ANZ bank
in New Zealand, then joined the Portman Building Society upon
arriving in England, working her way up from Cashier to Branch
Manager within a year. She then spent a year at Woolwich and Barclays
Bank.
Relocating from Surrey to the West Midlands, Vikki
decided a change of direction was in order and became PA to Simon
Dimmock, then CEO of Flowergram when the company was based in
Stourbridge in the West Midlands, and was introduced to the wonderful
world of floral relay. "I knew absolutely nothing
about the florist industry upon joining Flowergram, but learned very
quickly what a fast-paced an interesting industry floristry is." When
Flowergram was bought by FlowersDirect in May 2007, Vikki took
redundancy.
"A few months later I had a call from Simon,
who said he knew the BFA were in need of a new Secretariat and he thought
I was perfect for the job. After meeting Mark (BFA President) and
Brian (Vice President), I was thrilled to find they thought so too and I
started in August 2007. The BFA has grown so quickly and we've seen so
many changes in the last year, it really feels like I've been working for
the BFA for decades but I mean that in a nice way! I still couldn't
arrange flowers to save my life, but I can keep all the paperwork and
admin ticking over in the background which is what I'm best
at".
