From 55 entrants, the final five finalists
competed on the 27th October in Chester, with BFA President Mark Ward
announcing the winner at the evenings Gala Dinner.
Congratulations
to Joe Massie, winner of the BFA Young Florist of the Year. Joe will
represent the UK at next years Eurofleurs in Belgium. Second place was
awarded to Katy Coleman, and Helen Hyland took third.
Joe was
presented with the inaugural award of the Maurice Evans Cup, by Maurice
Evans and BFA President Mark Ward.
Joe commented, "when it was announced I'd won the Young Florist of the Year
competition, my inital reaction was disbelief! I'd worked hard just
to get to the final stage, and because I was aware that the
competition was so strong, I really didn't expect to be placed - let
alone win!
I've really got to say a BIG thank you to
the team that has supported me throughout this competition - my
employer, Richard Moore of Fishlocks Florist in Liverpool, all the
team in the shop especially Theresa Foley and Joanne Biddle, and
Heemskerk and Lorenz flowers for the flyest fresh materials
around. To Neil Whittaker, Antony Williams and Sarah Horne
for all the friendship, advice and support. Good advice, a good
team and hard work, can make a good florist great.
Competing
in this competition was an amazing experience, and now it's
over, it really is just the beginning! Belgium - here we come!!!!"
