The British Florist Association was founded 100 years ago as the independent trade association for the UK floristry industry and a non-profit organisation. The BFA is recognised as the authoritative voice of the industry by government at local, national and international level, and is the exclusive UK member of Florint, the European Federation of Florist Associations.
The British Florist Association is run for its members by its members and derives the funding for its wide-ranging activities exclusively from its membership. The BFA Board is elected by the membership and is supported by an extensive team of volunteers, who are equally passionate about the world of professional floristry.
Today’s BFA reflects the changing and diverse nature of the floristry industry. It reflects florist businesses of every shape and size, whether they are studio florists, online florists, grower florists, high-street florists or event florists. All are represented by the BFA. Floristry colleges, flower schools, wholesalers, growers, suppliers and related professional service providers also form part of the BFA’s membership.
The BFA Standard of Excellence set the high levels of quality and of service that every customer can expect from all florist members of the British Floristry Association whether they are wedding florists, event florists, high-street florists, grower-florists or contract florists.
The British Florist Association is the single unifying movement at the heart of the UK’s diverse floristry industry. It represents industry interests at local and national government level and to the media.
The BFA showcases the skills of the professional florist to consumers at prestigious flower shows nationwide and online through the website.
Today, The BFA runs the UK’s ONLY floristry trade show, the UK’s ONLY floristry trade conference and publishes the UK’s ONLY trade print magazine.
The BFA is passionate about driving industry standards. It founded the Institute of Professional Florists in 2015 and is the sole provider of floristry skills competitions to World Skills, UK Skills and the RHS.
