We are one of only a few colleges with the resources and experiences to offer all levels of floristry offering a clear progression route from level 1 to level 5, achieving Master Florist status by City & Guilds, which are all recognised in the industry.

Offering an outstanding theoretical and practical experience to give you the business skills necessary to work at the highest levels in industry. The professional floristry portfolio of courses on offer at Hadlow are specifically designed to give students the opportunity to study all aspects of commercial floristry, with an emphasis on extending and exploring floral design, whilst at the same time focusing on the commercial viability and profitability of business.Learn from inspiring tutors with extensive experience, who all work in the industry, so are aware of the seasonal trends and fashion, which they incorporate into their expert teaching. We pride ourselves on training people to become commercial florists, with the ability to construct a vast range of designs.

Floristry Studios are found within the real life retail environment of the Broadview Complex, which includes our Garden Centre, awarding winning Tea Rooms and Public Gardens. Also based in Broadview is the College’s award winning professional commercial florist, who can provide students with a wide range of professional and sometimes unusual floristry sundries at competitive prices. Hadlow students can take advantage of an unrivalled selection of resources in the Learning Resources Centre, including both floristry design books and from a wider perspective, art and design books, for student use Students benefit from tutor demonstrations and the chance to work with a wide range of fellow professionals and the networking advantages that this presents. There are also a wide range of IT facilities and support available to students at the College.
 

FLORISTRY COURSES

LEVEL 1 DIPLOMA IN LAND-BASED STUDIES (FLORISTRY) LEVEL 1

Giving you an insight into the skills you need for a successful floristry career, this practically-based course is an ideal starting point for those students who have few formal qualifications. You will learn how to produce designs for gifts, weddings and funerals.

Course Duration: Full Time

College Attendance: 1 year, 3 or 4 days a week.

Campus: Hadlow Campus

Course Content:

  • Safe and effective working practice in land-based industries
  • Develop performance in land-based industries
  • Carry out basic floristry tasks
  • Identify cut flowers, foliage and plants
  • Produce and maintain shop displays
  • Assemble basic floristry designs
  • Industrial experience in land-based industries
  • Functional skills/GCSE – English and Mathematics

Assessment Method:

Short multiple choice examinations, plus a portfolio of evidence will be marked by an external examiner.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to the curriculum area and have two GCSEs at grades D-E or a relevant Entry Level 3 vocational qualification.


LEVEL 2 TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE IN FLORISTRY

Developing practical design skills and emphasising the fundamental principles of floristry and retailing, this course is an ideal steppingstone to more advanced qualifications. Ideal for budding florists of any age, you will gain the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to cope with the day-to-day responsibilities involved in a floristry shop. Within this course you will also benefit from a minimum of 150 hours work experience in a floristry shop. This exposure to real-life situations will enhance your learning and enable you to understand the different situations a florist encounter.

Course Duration: Full Time

College Attendance: 1 year, 3 or 4 days a week plus 150 HOURS work experience.

Assessment Method:

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully

achieve the following assessments:

·  One externally set, externally moderated assignment

·  One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under exam conditions

·  One externally set, internally marked Health and Safety assignment

Entry Requirements:

Minimum of four GCSEs C-D Grade or equivalent (Level 1 Diploma), which must include GCSE in English OR Maths A*-D Grade or equivalent. Students need to have a willingness to learn and an aptitude for coursework. Although no previous floristry experience is required, students should have a genuine interest and commitment to pursue a career in floristry.


LEVEL 3 TECHNICAL DIPLOMA IN FLORISTRY

Further developing your practical floristry skills, this course covers a range of advanced designs such as bridal and sympathy work. You will learn about the marketing and retail skills needed to be a successful florist and gain an insight into the correct use of corporate image. Within this course you will also benefit from a minimum of 300 hours work experience in a floristry shop. This exposure to real-life situations will enhance your learning and enable you to understand the different situations a florist encounter. By the end of the course you should have the necessary tools to start your own business or progress onto one of our higher educational programmes.

Course Duration: Full Time

College Attendance: 1 year, 3 or 4 days a week.

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:

·  Two externally set, externally moderated assignment

·  One externally set, externally marked exams, sat under examination conditions

·  One portfolio

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including 2 in English and Maths) or a full Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or equivalent.

LEVEL 4 HIGHER DIPLOMA IN FLORISTRY

Explore your creative skills and develop your business acumen with this higher education course. Particularly suitable for experienced or part-qualified florists who want to demonstrate their skills and understanding, you will combine your studies with work experience and look at a variety of different designs, including handtied, wired and glued techniques as well as modern trends and historical practices. College attendance: 2 years, 1 day a week

LEVEL 5 MASTER DIPLOMA IN PROFESSIONAL FLORISTRY

This, the highest floristry qualification available in the UK, is perfect for florists wishing to extend their skills in line with international standards. Stretching you to the highest levels of floral design, design concepts, techniques and personal skills, this course encourages you to create trend-setting and product leading work; enhancing your career potential within areas such as management, business ownership, demonstrating and teaching.
